Chambertin

Granted Grand Cru status on 31 July 1937, Chambertin takes its name from a field first planted by a peasant named Bertin in the 12th century, its roughly 13 hectares of shallow limestone and marl rising above the village that later appended the vineyard's name to become Gevrey-Chambertin. Long celebrated as Napoleon's favourite wine and hailed by many as the "King of Burgundies," Chambertin ranks alongside its immediate neighbour Chambertin-Clos de Bèze as the finest of Gevrey's nine Grand Crus.
