Saint-Estephe Wine

Granted AOC status in 1936, Saint-Estèphe is the northernmost of the Médoc's great communal appellations, its gravel and clay soils spread across some 1,230 hectares on the banks of the Gironde estuary. The 1855 Classification named only five Saint-Estèphe estates as Crus Classés, leaving much of the appellation's reputation to be carried by outstanding Cru Bourgeois houses such as Château Phélan Ségur.
