Maison Henri Gouges
Nuits-Saint-Georges
The Domain
Maison Henri Gouges is the négociant label of the Gouges family, whose Domaine Henri Gouges has been a reference in Nuits-Saint-Georges since 1920.
Henri Gouges was one of the pioneers of estate bottling in Burgundy and, in the 1930s, helped delineate the crus of the Côte d'Or for the INAO. Today the family is led by his great-grandsons Gregory and Antoine Gouges, who farm the domaine organically.
Through the Maison, the family brings the same precision and standards to a range of approachable village wines, alongside the Montagny wines of Cavea Famille Gouges in the Côte Chalonnaise.
The Style
The house style is classic Nuits-Saint-Georges: structured, savoury Pinot Noir with dark red fruit, firm but fine tannins and a clear sense of place, made for the table rather than for show.
The Côte de Nuits-Villages and the Nuits-Saint-Georges 'Louise' offer an accessible entry into the Gouges style, while the Montagny 1er Cru 'Nos Lieux Dits' from Cavea shows a bright, mineral side of Burgundian Chardonnay.
