Deep red in colour, with aromas of black fruits, dark cherry and blackcurrant lifted by violet, earth and spice. The palate is complex and mouth-filling, with a silky entry, lively fruit sweetness and fine-grained, silky tannins running to a long, mineral-driven finish. Les Cazetiers’ two-part terroir — upper marl-limestone for finesse, lower clay for power — gives it a richer, more structured character than its neighbour Clos Saint-Jacques.

Domaine Bruno Clair is based in Marsannay-la-Côte, at the northern end of the Côte de Nuits, and traces its roots to 1919, when Bruno Clair’s grandfather Joseph Clair married Marguerite Daü, whose family worked vineyards in Marsannay — the union that founded the Clair-Daü estate, later expanded by Bruno’s parents Bernard and Geneviève. Bruno Clair struck out on his own in 1979, making him the sixth generation of the family in Burgundian winemaking.

Since then the domaine has grown through strategic acquisitions — Chambolle-Musigny in 1990, Aloxe-Corton and Pernand-Vergelesses in 1993, and further parcels since — to reach roughly 27 hectares spread across eight villages of the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune. Beyond its home base in Marsannay, the domaine’s holdings run from village and Premier Cru Gevrey-Chambertin (including the Clos du Fonteny monopole, Petite Chapelle, Les Cazetiers and Clos Saint-Jacques) through Morey-Saint-Denis, Chambolle-Musigny, Vosne-Romanée, Savigny-lès-Beaune, Aloxe-Corton and Pernand-Vergelesses, up to Grand Cru sites including Bonnes-Mares, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze and Corton-Charlemagne.

In the vineyard and cellar the domaine is known for meticulous, low-intervention work — rigorous sorting, restrained extraction and judicious, vintage-adjusted use of new oak under longtime cellar master Philippe Brun, with sustainable, largely organic-style farming. Today it is a family operation: Bruno’s wife Isabelle joined in 2005 to manage administration and sales, and the couple’s three children now run the estate day to day — Edouard overseeing vines and vinification, Margaux handling vineyard work and shipping, and Arthur running the cellar.
