Tasting notes

Le Terrier is a distinctive, varietal expression of Malbec from the right bank of the Gironde estuary. It shows dark berry fruit, spice and a supple, approachable finish, with the softer tannin and rounder texture typical of Malbec grown on Blaye's clay-limestone soils. It is made in a fresh, fruit-forward style meant to be enjoyed within a few years of the vintage.

More About The Winery

Vignobles Carreau traces its roots to 1832, when Antoine Carreau, a former cooper, bought the Château L'Escadre property in Blaye from a Napoleonic-era admiral. The family has farmed continuously ever since, expanding over successive generations — including replanting after phylloxera and beginning estate bottling in 1928 — to today's holding of several properties across the Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux appellation. The estate is now run by cousins Sébastien and Nicolas Carreau, who continue to work the vineyards, including the Malbec plots behind cuvées like Le Terrier, under a certified sustainable-farming regime.
