Tasting notes

The 2017 Roc de Cambes is a deep garnet-purple red with remarkable aromatic complexity. On the nose, it reveals layers of blackberry, cassis, and red plum, interwoven with cedar, tobacco leaf, and damp earth. Subtle hints of pencil shavings, dried herbs, and a touch of spice enhance its aromatic depth. The palate is full-bodied and expressive, featuring a core of juicy red and black fruit, lifted by a vibrant thread of fresh acidity. Grainy yet refined tannins provide structure, leading into a long, persistent finish with earthy and savory undertones. A wine of poise and personality, already enjoyable but built to evolve gracefully.

'A hidden gem that emerges from the cellar of Tertre Roteboeuf, the 2017 Roc De Cambes comes from a vineyard in the Cotes de Bourg region of Bordeaux, which is located north of Fronsac. It’s a superstar effort that boasts a deep purple hue as well as sumptuous notes of creme de cassis, white flowers, candle wax, and graphite. A powerful, full-bodied 2017 with plenty of background oak, a seamless texture, and a rare mix of power and elegance, count me impressed. It’s going to evolve for 10-15 years or more. Don’t miss a chance to grab a bottle if you can. '

'The 2017 Roc de Cambes is even better from bottle than it was from barrel. Rich, dense and explosive, with tremendous power the 2017 is positively stellar from the very first taste. Macerated dark cherries, sage, spice, star anise, orange zest, mint and new leather give the 2017 an exotic, racy feel that is hard to fully describe. In the glass, the 2017 possesses off the charts aromatic intensity and tons of pure fruit richness, while the 100% new oak is barely perceptible. Readers lucky enough to find it will enjoy a wine of tremendous character and personality. This is an absolutely stunning wine from Francois and Nina Mitjavile. (AG) '

'The 2017 Roc de Cambes is deep garnet-purple in color with a slightly reticent nose of blackberries, cassis and tar with nuances of pencil shavings, damp soil and dried herbs. The palate is medium-bodied, firm and grainy with great freshness and a long, lively finish. (LPB)'
