Tasting notes

Coteau de Noiré is Philippe Alliet's flagship cuvée, drawn from a celebrated steep vineyard site and raised in barrique, and it shows a darker, more concentrated register than the domaine's other Chinons. Expect black cherry and cassis fruit, violet and graphite notes, and a firm, well-knit tannic structure typical of top-tier Cabernet Franc from this appellation. It's built with real ageing potential, gaining savoury, spiced complexity over the medium term while retaining the freshness that defines the best Chinon.

More About The Winery

Domaine Philippe Alliet is run by the father-and-son team of Philippe and Pierre Alliet from Cravant-les-Coteaux, in the heart of the Chinon appellation in the Loire Valley, farming around 12 hectares planted entirely to Cabernet Franc. The Alliets are known for low yields, meticulous vineyard work, total de-stemming to soften the vegetal edge sometimes found in Loire reds, and fermentation with indigenous yeasts. Their range moves from a foundational estate Chinon through old-vine and single-slope cuvées up to Coteau de Noiré, and the domaine is widely regarded as one of the benchmark addresses for serious, age-worthy Chinon.
