Tasting Notes & Ratings

Grape

50% Syrah, 30% Grenache, 20% Carignan, with the Grenache and Carignan coming from old vines aged 40-80 years.

Tasting notes

Les Sorcières is hand-harvested and vinified with a cold pre-fermentary maceration followed by gentle extraction over 15-21 days, then aged on fine lees in tank for eight months with minimal sulfur additions. The result is a medium-bodied red with expressive black-fruit aromatics, delicate, well-integrated tannins and a silky texture. It's approachable on release and drinks well over its first two to three years.

More About The Winery

Domaine du Clos des Fées was founded in 1998 by Hervé Bizeul, a former Paris sommelier and restaurateur who began buying vines around Vingrau, in the Agly Valley of northern Roussillon, before turning to winemaking full time. Bizeul built the estate's reputation on rich, concentrated reds from very old vines — many 50 to 100 years old — grown on clay-limestone soils and farmed for low yields, and is widely credited with helping establish Roussillon as a serious fine-wine region. Les Sorcières is the domaine's most accessible cuvée, offering an entry point into Bizeul's terroir-driven style.
