Tasting notes

Tasted in retrospect, the 2006 vintage shows a very rich, intense and deep colour, remarkably youthful for its age, with a concentration of dark fruit even more pronounced than in more recent vintages — a testament to this cuvée's ageing potential. Built from equal parts Syrah, Mourvèdre, Grenache Noir and Carignan Noir, it carries the estate's signature richness and spice, framed by firm, silky tannins and a long, structured finish.

Expert Ratings

Wine Spectator 93/100

'This rich, powerful red delivers intense dark and red fruit flavors that are accented by plenty of zesty, spicy notes. The long finish features snappy red licorice and dark chocolate flavors. Decant before serving. Equal parts Grenache, Mourvedre, Syrah and Carignan.'

More About The Winery

Founded in 1998 by Hervé Bizeul — former “Best Young Sommelier of France,” wine journalist, and Paris wine bar owner — Domaine du Clos des Fées has become one of the most acclaimed estates in Roussillon. What began with a small, garage-made vintage quickly turned into an international success story, with the wines now sought after by collectors worldwide.

The domaine’s vineyards stretch across diverse terroirs, up to 15 km apart, with exposures and soils ranging from granite to limestone. Many plots feature century-old vines, hand-harvested and farmed with a philosophy of respect for nature.

With plantings focused on Grenache, Carignan, Syrah, Grenache Blanc, and Grenache Gris, Clos des Fées produces wines of remarkable depth, concentration, and finesse. Ageing in oak barriques and bottling without filtration further enhances their character and authenticity.
