About the Winery
Domaine Chifflet is a boutique estate in the Saint-Joseph appellation of France's Northern Rhône Valley, led by third-generation vigneron Paul Chifflet. Departing from his family's tradition of selling grapes to the local cooperative, Paul began bottling under the domaine's own label in 2021, marking a significant evolution in their winemaking journey.
The estate encompasses a single hectare of Syrah vines spread across five distinct plots in the hamlet of Verdelette, situated above Saint-Jean-de-Muzols on the Ardèche side of the Rhône Valley, directly facing the famed Hermitage hill. The steep, granite-rich slopes are cultivated organically (though not certified), with vineyard work conducted manually and with the assistance of horses due to the challenging terrain. Winemaking Philosophy
Paul vinifies each plot separately, resulting in five micro-cuvées that are aged in oak barrels before being artfully blended into a single Saint-Joseph red wine. Each micro-cuvée is named after the individual who originally planted the plot, honoring the vineyard's heritage. Paul's approach is guided by a former vineyard master from the esteemed Jean-Louis Chave estate, ensuring a balance of tradition and precision in his winemaking.
