Tasting notes
The 2018 offers a classic Poujeaux profile of black raspberry, cassis and violet lifted by notes of tobacco, smoke and light espresso. The palate is medium-bodied with soft, well-integrated tannins and a fresh, vibrant core of fruit, showing the gravel-driven precision typical of Moulis. It is already giving pleasure but has the balance to keep developing for a decade or more.
More About The Winery
Chateau Poujeaux traces its origins to the 16th century and was reunified as a single estate by the Theil family in 1921 after generations of division. The Cuvelier family, also owners of Clos Fourtet in Saint-Emilion, took over in 2008 and modernised the winemaking facilities while working with consultant Stephane Derenoncourt to sharpen precision in the vineyard. Planted on the deep Gunz gravel that runs through Moulis, the 68-hectare estate is regarded as one of the appellation's benchmark properties, long considered on a par with classified growths.
