Tasting notes

Major 2022 shows an intense ruby colour with a toasted, ripe-fruit nose of red berries and vanilla from its 16 months in new oak barrels. The palate balances power and refinement, with the Merlot-dominant blend giving generous, rounded fruit while the unfiltered bottling preserves texture and depth. It is the more ambitious of Chateau L'Escadre's Blaye cuvees, with a little more grip and concentration than the estate's everyday bottlings.

More About The Winery

Chateau L'Escadre has been in the Carreau family's hands since 1832, when Antoine Carreau, a former cooper, bought the property from a Napoleonic-era admiral. The family responded to the phylloxera crisis by becoming early adopters of grafted American rootstock, and the estate has since passed through seven generations, now run by cousins Sebastien and Nicolas Carreau. Major is the estate's more concentrated, new-oak-aged cuvee, produced from clay-limestone parcels within the Blaye Cotes de Bordeaux appellation on the Gironde's right bank.
