Rhône Valley Wines

Formalised as the Côtes du Rhône appellation in 1937, the Rhône Valley today spans some 172 communes across six départements, its vineyards stretching from the granite hillsides of the northern Rhône around Hermitage and Côte-Rôtie to the sun-baked garrigue of Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Gigondas in the south. Few French wine regions encompass such a range of terroirs and grape varieties under one banner, from single-varietal Syrah to blends of a dozen grapes or more.
