Tasting notes
Les Vieux Clos is the most immediately open of the three Coulée de Serrant cuvées, though it shares the family's signature intensity. Expect a pale gold colour and a nose of orchard fruit, quince and beeswax, with fresh herbal and saline lift typical of the schist soils above the Loire. The palate is dry, textured and vibrant, with racy acidity carrying ripe stone-fruit and mineral notes through to a long, savoury finish.
More About The Winery
The Coulée de Serrant vineyard overlooking the Loire has been farmed by the Joly family for generations, with vines planted on the estate's steep, hand-worked schist slopes. Nicolas Joly began converting the property to biodynamic viticulture in the early 1980s and, by 1984, had the whole estate farmed this way — work that made him one of the most influential and outspoken advocates for biodynamics in the wine world. Les Vieux Clos, drawn from vines within the broader Savennières appellation surrounding the domaine's grand cru monopoles, offers a more accessible introduction to the estate's uncompromising, terroir-driven style of Chenin Blanc.
