Tasting notes
Clos de la Coulée de Serrant is a pale yellow with golden highlights, opening with notes of yellow plum, quince and ginger wrapped in a saline, beeswax-tinged bouquet, with fresh tobacco leaf and herbaceous undertones. The palate is silky yet richly textured, with ripe peach fruit lifted by mineral energy from the vineyard's schist and quartz soils, and vibrant, racy acidity that drives an elegant, long finish. It is built for the long haul and only fully unfurls with years in bottle.
More About The Winery
Clos de la Coulée de Serrant is a historic single-vineyard monopole first planted by Cistercian monks in 1130 and owned exclusively by the Joly family today; it forms its own appellation, one of the smallest in France. Nicolas Joly converted the estate to biodynamic farming in the early 1980s, becoming one of the movement's most prominent global advocates, and the steep, terraced slopes above the Loire are still hand-cultivated and, in places, horse-plowed. The resulting wine is consistently cited among the world's most singular and age-worthy dry white wines.
