Tasting Notes & Ratings

Grape

80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, the traditional blend at this Pomerol estate (proportions shift slightly by vintage).

Tasting notes

The warm, generous 2018 growing season suits Le Bon Pasteur's naturally opulent style, giving a deeply coloured Pomerol with black cherry, plum, dark chocolate and a touch of licorice and truffle. The palate is ripe and rich with soft, well-integrated tannins and gentle acidity, unfolding into a silky, generous finish. It is already expressive but has the fruit concentration to develop further over the next decade.

More About The Winery

Chateau Le Bon Pasteur is a small, highly regarded Pomerol property whose roots trace back to the 1920s, when the Dupuy family worked the vineyard as sharecroppers. The estate became closely associated with Bordeaux consultants Michel and Dany Rolland, whose hands-on approach - green harvesting, careful leaf-thinning and rigorous phenolic ripeness assessment - still shapes the wine today. Since 2013 the property has been owned by the Goldin Group, with the Rollands continuing to oversee winemaking, and the wine remains one of the more consistently sought-after names among Pomerol's unclassified elite.
