Grape
100% Chardonnay
Tasting notes
A fruit-forward nose of melon and peach, with a delicate grassy lift. The palate is juicy and direct, its generous fruit taking centre stage in an unoaked style, finishing with a softly sweet impression reminiscent of malt sugar.
More About The Winery
Domaine Fangsi was established in 2022 by a group of young sommeliers and winemakers, with its winemaking team led by Australia-trained Yao Ningning. Also known as Domaine Freemind, the boutique winery combines imaginative cuvée names with an ambition to bring the quality and individuality of Chinese wine to a wider audience.
The estate lies in Ningxia’s Helan Mountain East wine region, with approximately 10 hectares of vineyards that predate the winery’s establishment. First planted in 2013 by Yao Ningning’s father, the vineyards are devoted principally to Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Poor soils covered with stones and gravel encourage the vines to root deeply in search of water and nutrients.
Alongside its red wines, the domaine produces Langli Chardonnay, offering another expression of its Ningxia origins. Published tasting commentary describes the 2023 as an unoaked, fruit-led white, with melon and peach flavours and a juicy palate.
