What is En Primeur?
En Primeur (also called "wine futures") is a system where you buy Bordeaux wines before they are bottled and released to market. Each spring, following the harvest, négociants and châteaux open their cellars to journalists and buyers for a week of barrel tastings — known as La Semaine des Primeurs. Based on these tastings, critics publish scores and prices are set.
As a buyer, you commit to purchasing the wine at this early price, typically 18 to 24 months before delivery. The wines are then bottled and shipped to you — or held in bond — when released.
Why Buy En Primeur in Hong Kong?
Hong Kong is one of Asia's most important fine wine markets — and one of the most favourable for En Primeur buying. With zero wine duty, Hong Kong buyers pay no import tax on wine held in bond, making it an exceptionally cost-efficient way to build a cellar or wine investment portfolio.
