Grape
100% Pinot Noir
One of Zusslin's goals has always been to be the most accurate in the expression of the Terroirs that they vinify. To go further in this process, they have done the choice in 2016 to no longer produce the “Harmonie” cuvée and replace it with two more parcel selections precise: the Luft and the Neuberg. This choice was also made in view of the demands of Premiers Crus beginning to appear in Alsace.
To produce this very limited cuvée (less than 1000 bottles) they followed different steps: maceration for two and a half weeks (after three sortings drastic and total destemming), punching down 3 times a day manually only. Aged for 15 months in piece, with about 10% new wood. This piece of wood nine corresponding to the new parts added to our cellar and benefiting from a drying time for the wood higher (42 months instead of the usual 36) for refine the contribution of tannins to the maximum.
Tasting notes
“The Luft” reveals vibrant aromas of fresh red fruits, supported by silky, precise tannins that lend structure and finesse.
More About The Winery
Founded in 1691, Domaine Valentin Zusslin is one of Alsace’s oldest family estates, now run by the 13th generation, Marie and Jean-Paul Zusslin. Located in Orschwihr, in the southern part of the region, the domaine cultivates 16 hectares of vineyards with a steadfast commitment to biodynamic viticulture since 1997.
The estate’s holdings include some of Alsace’s finest terroirs, notably the Bollenberg, Clos Liebenberg, and Pfingstberg Grand Cru. Here, classic Alsatian grapes — Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, Sylvaner, and Pinot Noir — thrive on limestone and clay-limestone soils, producing wines of remarkable purity, energy, and terroir expression.
Zusslin’s wines are renowned for their precision, balance, and ageing potential, with whites showing crystalline minerality and aromatic finesse, and their Pinot Noirs earning growing acclaim for Burgundian-like elegance. Every bottle reflects the family’s philosophy of harmony between vineyard, nature, and craftsmanship.
