Tasting notes

The Grande Reserve 2022 shows a deep, intense purple colour and a rich, dense palate built on ripe blackberry and dark plum fruit. Refined, lightly toasted tannins from its year in oak give the wine good structure without heaviness, and there is a pleasing balance between fruit and oak spice through to the finish. It is a supple, well-made Right Bank-style Bordeaux offering excellent value.

More About The Winery

Chateau L'Escadre has been in the Carreau family's hands since 1832, when Antoine Carreau, a former cooper, bought the property from a Napoleonic-era admiral. The family responded to the phylloxera crisis by becoming early adopters of grafted American rootstock, and the estate has since passed through seven generations, now run by cousins Sebastien and Nicolas Carreau. Farmed on clay-limestone soils in the Blaye Cotes de Bordeaux appellation on the Gironde's right bank, the estate today produces a range of cuvees, from the everyday Tradition through to the more structured Grande Reserve and Major bottlings.
