Tasting notes

The 2024 Côte de Brouilly "Cuvée Zaccharie" from Château Thivin is a bright, contemporary, and energetic expression of Gamay, crafted from the volcanic slopes of Mont Brouilly. The nose is immediately expressive, revealing crunchy cherry, raspberry, and wild strawberry, lifted by delicate floral notes of violet and peony.

On the palate, the wine opens with a soft, juicy attack and a fluid, harmonious texture. Beneath the vibrant fruit lies a darker volcanic mineral character, with subtle hints of smoke and pepper adding depth and complexity. Bright acidity brings precision and freshness, enhancing the wine’s balance.

Though immediately appealing, the 2024 retains a serious underlying structure and tension. The finish is long, savoury, and mineral-driven, delivering a refined and terroir-focused expression of Côte de Brouilly.

More About The Winery

Founded in the 14th century and acquired by the Geoffray family in 1877, Château Thivin is the oldest estate on the slopes of the Côte de Brouilly, and today stands as one of the reference domaines of Beaujolais.

The estate’s vineyards are planted on steep, blue granite slopes that define the unique terroir of Côte de Brouilly, producing wines of intensity, freshness, and mineral elegance. The focus is on Gamay, crafted into reds that combine vibrant fruit, floral aromatics, and fine tannins, with an ageing potential far beyond the expectations of most Beaujolais wines.

Under the stewardship of Claude Geoffray and his son Claude-Edouard, Château Thivin embraces traditional methods, including hand harvesting, semi-carbonic maceration, and ageing in large oak foudres, ensuring wines that are both authentic and terroir-driven.

Internationally acclaimed, Château Thivin is praised by critics for producing serious, structured Beaujolais that rivals top Burgundy, making it a favorite among sommeliers and collectors.
