Tasting Notes & Ratings

70% Grenache noir, 20% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre

Tasting notes

An intense dark-ruby colour. The nose develops aromas of ripe black fruit (such as blackberry), cherry and spice box. The palate reveals the presence of tannins, in high quantity and elegant. The finish is long and luxurious. This is the Châteauneuf du Pape expression, displaying all the characteristics of the terroir.

Expert Ratings

94/100 Wines Spectator

"Rich and concentrated, but racy too, with blackberry and dark plum fruit revealing crushed graphite and a kick of menthol, which adds freshness. Long and svelte, with refined tannins that drive the simmering, smoky close, this complex red shows a lot of stuffing. Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. Drink now through 2032. - Kristen Bieler"

More About The Winery

Founded in 1826 by Mathieu Jaume, Domaine du Grand Veneur has grown into one of the leading family estates of the southern Rhône Valley. Today, the estate is managed by the 5th and 6th generations  Alain Jaume and his children Christophe, Sébastien, and Hélène — who continue a tradition of crafting wines that combine heritage, terroir, and modern precision.

Based in the northern part of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the domaine spans 225 acres across four appellations: Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Côtes-du-Rhône (including Les Champauvins), Lirac, and Vacqueyras. While historically known for its whites, since 1995 the focus has been on powerful and expressive reds, alongside fresh whites and elegant rosés.

All vineyards are farmed under certified organic agriculture, with practices that include light plowing, natural compost, controlled yields, green harvesting, and meticulous hand harvesting and sorting. This commitment to detail ensures wines of concentration, finesse, and terroir expression.
