Tasting note
The 2024 Domaine Graeme & Julie Bott First Flight Viognier is a fresh, delicate, and mineral-driven expression from the Northern Rhône, shining pale gold with bright, clear reflections. The nose is expressive and refined, bursting with white blossoms, lychee, apricot, and candied lemon, lifted by subtle herbal nuances of rosemary or menthol. On the palate, it is elegant, vibrant, and precise, offering a gourmand yet finely etched profile with flavours of white peach, pink grapefruit, and ginger layered over a subtle chalky minerality. Its freshness and tension set it apart from heavier, more opulent Viogniers, culminating in a textured finish marked by a touch of noble bitterness. Sourced from high-altitude granite soils in the IGP Collines Rhodaniennes, the wine is hand-picked, whole-bunch pressed, fermented in barrels, and aged for around 10 months in French oak—resulting in a dry, crisp, and beautifully balanced Viognier of remarkable finesse.
More About The Winery
Nestled in the Northern Rhône Valley, Domaine Graeme & Julie Bott has quickly become one of the region’s most exciting and dynamic producers. Established by husband-and-wife team Graeme Bott, originally from New Zealand, and Julie Bott, a native of the Rhône, the domaine has earned an impressive reputation in a remarkably short time.
From their first vintage in 2016, the Botts have gained critical acclaim for their precise, terroir-driven wines across Condrieu, Côte-Rôtie, Saint-Joseph, and Collines Rhodaniennes. With a deep respect for the land, they practice sustainable viticulture, working steep granite slopes by hand to craft wines of purity, finesse, and energy.
Their Viognier from Condrieu shows crystalline minerality and floral elegance, while their Syrah from Côte-Rôtie and Saint-Joseph delivers aromatic complexity, balance, and remarkable aging potential. The style is modern yet respectful of tradition — wines that capture both Northern Rhône authenticity and Bott family innovation.
