Tasting notes
While there are no specific tasting notes for the 2024 vintage yet, the Chateau de la Roulerie Coteaux du Layon is a sweet Chenin Blanc that typically features aromas and flavors of honey, apricot, and citrus, with notes of candied fruit, honeysuckle, and a balanced acidity. The wine is characterized by its richness and complexity, which is enhanced by noble rot.
More About The Winery
With vineyards dating back centuries, Château La Roulerie entered a new era in 1996, when it was purchased by the Germain family. Since 2004, under the leadership of Philippe Germain, the estate has been completely renovated, equipped with modern facilities, and elevated into one of the Loire’s most exciting domaines.
The estate spans 42 hectares, with 38 under vine across 17 parcels in La Roulerie and Les Grandes Brosses, planted on schist soils ideal for producing refined, terroir-driven wines. With slopes facing south–southwest, the vineyards benefit from optimal ripening conditions in this northern climate. Low yields of 25–30 hl/ha ensure concentration and quality in every vintage.
Originally focused on sweet wines, the domaine has since gained recognition for its dry whites, which have evolved towards a style of higher acidity, finesse, and discreet oak influence. Since 2015, all wines are certified organic, and since 2011, Philippe has led a progressive conversion to biodynamic farming. The wines are also vegan, reflecting a deep respect for nature and balance.
Today, Château La Roulerie is celebrated for producing elegant Chenin Blancs and Cabernet Francs that capture the character of the Loire Valley, combining freshness, precision, and ageing potential.
