"An excellent example of how a “natural” wine, in good hands from great terroir is ultra-enlightening."
Only about 600 bottles of this vibrant, deeply flavored, rich gold-colored wine were made - this 2018 being the Zusslin’s first bottling of this wine. This 2018 is composed of 100% Auxerrois (a grape reaching its heights in Alsace) from the prestigious Bollenberg hill. An excellent example of how a “natural” wine, in good hands from great terroir is ultra-enlightening. A wine that tastes great for days after opening - no rush to finish, but hard to resist
Tasting notes: Being Zusslin’s first bottling of this wine in 2018, only 600 bottles were produced. This expressive Auxerrois is vibrant, deeply flavoured, rich gold-colored with wet stone, mandarin skins and fleshy floral notes of jasmine and magnolia blossom. On the palate, there is a touch of refreshing orange sherbet. Aromatic, textured and complex – a true snapshot of Alsace at its best.

The 2018 Auxerrois Au'Rigine is another wine from the west-facing, warm and dry Bollenberg. Vinified in foudres for at least a year, this has been a classic of the domain since forever. The wine has a delicate yet perfectly ripe Pinot aroma intertwined with very fine yeasty notes. Salty and pure on the palate but also fresh and with mineral grip on the finish, this is a medium-bodied, elegant and digestible Auxerrois with fine tannins and an intense, well-structured finish. Still young and with stunning freshness for that warm and early vintage. Tasted in May 2020. Stephen Reinhardt
Established in 1691 by M. Jodocus CISLE (former name of Zusslin), Domaine Valentin ZUSSLIN is now run by two generations of the Zusslin family who are following in the footsteps of their forbears. The winery is based in Orschwihr, south of Colmar, and the vines are planted on the slopes of the Bollenberg, Clos Liebenberg and Grand Cru Pfingstberg.
Since 1997, the estate has been run in its entirety according to the principles of Bio-Dynamic culture. The vines are mainly worked by hand and a significant amount of time is devoted to caring for the soil.
Awarded the Robert Parker Green emblem in July 2021.
