The Domain
Located at the foot of the charming village of Gassin, on the Saint-Tropez Peninsula, the Château Barbeyrolles provides a unique setting in the Var. A family wine-growing domain in typical Provence tradition, the property is seated among twelve hectares of organic vineyards. In 1977 the Chateau Barbeyrolles was acquired by the Sumeire family, who have been in Provence since the 13th century. At the time the chateau was a sleeping treasure needing extensive renovation work, improvements and some rebuilding. Roger and Régine Sumeire have since continued the work revealing the beauty of the domain and the vineyard with the greatest respect for the environment.
The Style
For many years, the family have valued the preservation of the surrounding natural area and the produce of the land. The vines are tended without use of chemical weed-killers, the land is ploughed by horse and the grapes are harvested by hand. The famous rosé wine “Pétale de rose” is one result of these traditional techniques and philosophy. For over 20 years, this premium rosé wine from Provence has been a benchmark in restaurants and hotels across the region and further afield.
