‘The top wine, the pride of the estate, has successfully created a synthesis between power and finesse, radiance and depth. ‘

    • Wine Region: Bordeaux - France
  • Terroirs: Pessac-Leognan
  • Grape: 61 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 37 % Merlot, 2 % Petit Verdot
  • Color: Red
  • Tasting Note:Among the classic elegance of Pessac-Léognan, the Carmes top wine has carved out its own niche. Unprecedented proportions of Cabernet Franc offer a silky power which is then supported by the intensity of Cabernet Sauvignon. Within this structure, Merlot develops rounded and refined fruitiness: balance is the order of the day, ensuring a style that is complex and delicious in equal measures.

    94/100 Robert Parker

An inky, bluish-black color, this wine has deep black raspberry and blueberry notes mixed with charcoal, graphite and subtle smoke. Rich, full-bodied and silky textured, this complex, stunning Pessac-Léognan from this tiny jewel of a vineyard near Haut Brion is hitting all the high notes in 2012. It should drink well for 15-20. This is another bottled wine that dramatically out-performed its barrel sample.’

    92/100 James Suckling

On the nose and palate this red suggests blackberries with cedar notes and hints of spices. Full body, silky tannins, fresh acidity and a long finish. The minerality and length is wonderful. This keeps getting better and better. Drink in 2020.

    92/100 Wine Enthusiast

New wood shows strongly in this wine that has structure and a dry core to match the ripe berry fruits and rich texture. The wine has potential with its juicy fruitiness and dark chocolate flavors. Wait until 2019 before drinking.

    92/100 Wine Spectator

Features a smoldering tobacco edge around the core of steeped plum and raspberry fruit, while hints of dried anise and alder line the finish. Shows range and character, with well-embedded acidity bolstering the length. Best from 2016 through 2022.

The terroir of 4.7 hectares, the only one in the world to own vines in the commune of Bordeaux, consists of vines aged 35 years on average. An atypical grape variety, composed of 40% Cabernet Franc, 18% Cabernet Sauvignon and 42% Merlot, embodies the other singularity of the property. The harvest is always manual and carried out with the greatest care. Today the objective is to stimulate the biodiversity of the vineyard and to express even better the potential of this magnificent terroir that is the plateau of Graves. Château Les Carmes Haut-Brion has thermo-regulated vats and small vats (40 to 80 hl) to harvest and vinify plot by plot. The acquisition of more modern equipment is one of the priorities of the Pichet Group. Patrice Pichet, a great lover of wines, but also of design and architecture, naturally turned to the designer Philippe Starck and the architect Luc Arsène-Henry to restructure the cellars in 2014. Work was completed to the 2015 harvest to welcome this exceptional vintage.

At thetasting, Château Les Carmes Haut-Brion offers wines with complex aromas, both powerful and refined, distinguished in the manner of Pessac-Léognan and resolutely unique.
