Tasting notes: This wine showcases a deep garnet color with an intensely floral bouquet featuring lilacs, violets, and roses, accompanied by notes of licorice, espresso, black raspberries, black cherries, and red currants. On the palate, it is rich and elegant with a majestic sense of lift and purity. The wine's complexity is enhanced by its oceanic influence, which adds layers of dark red, black, and blue fruits, along with a hint of spice. The seamless finish lingers long after the wine has left the glass. It blends 60% Cabernet Franc with 40% Merlot, offering a refined and intense experience.
Robert Parker 93/100
The second wine of Château Ausone is impressive in its own right. It reflects the fruitier, Merlot side of the vineyard, with ripe black fruits coming through the tannins. The wood aging does show in a vanilla character that will disappear as it matures. It's ripe, full of juicy fruit and ready to age over the medium term. Drink from 2019.
Château Ausone is one of the most prestigious estates in the Saint-Émilion region of Bordeaux. With a history that dates back centuries, the winery is known for its dedication to quality and tradition. The estate is managed by the Vauthier family, who employ meticulous viticultural and winemaking practices. The vineyards benefit from an exceptional terroir, with clay-limestone soils that contribute to the unique character of their wines.
Winemaking
Grapes are manually harvested and carefully sorted. The wine undergoes plot-by-plot vinification in small wooden vats, with gentle extraction through rack-and-return and gravity-fed pumping over. The wine is then aged for 20 months in new French oak barrels stored in underground quarries.
