Today the estate is run by Julien Thomas, who represents the 13th generation of the family to work this land — after training at the Lycée Viticole in Beaune and a formative stint at Burgundy’s Domaine Tollot-Beaut, he returned home in the mid-2000s and brought a terroir-first, Burgundian sensibility to the family’s Sancerre vineyards.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBased in the village of Verdigny, in the northwestern part of the Sancerre appellation, Domaine Thomas \u0026amp; Fils farms roughly 16 hectares across the three soil types that define Sancerre’s patchwork of terroirs: the clay-flint of silex, the shallow stony limestone of caillottes, and the marl-rich clay-limestone of terres blanches.
