What the winemaker is saying:
Here’s a Pinot Noir with a strong personality! It’s vinified in whole bunches, which lends the wine additional structure thanks to the tannic input of the grape stems (the woody part that keeps the grape bunches together); it also benefits from an 18-month cask aging, including 20% of new casks. A very versatile style of wine that will be great as much with grilled white meats as with delicate red meats.
Among the most outstanding producers making wine from the Corton hill is a domain that is firmly established in and associated with the appellation: Comte Senard. It is based in Aloxe-Corton since it was founded in 1857 by the Count Jules Senard when he acquired the 2.5-hectare monopole Corton "Clos des Meix". This climat remains the source of their most emblematic wine, although Senard also has holdings in "Clos du Roi", "les Bressandes" and elsewhere. The village of Aloxe-Corton lies midway between the Côte de Beaune and the Côte de Nuits. It is the only appellation which has Grands Crus in both red and white: Corton for the reds, Corton Charlemagne for the whites. Philippe Senard is the great grandson of Jules Senard. He started to run the Domaine in 1971, until his daughter, Lorraine Senard, took over her father in 2005. Lorraine first white vintage was 2002 and 2005 for the reds. She is the official winemaker since 2005. Lorraine is expressing the special qualities of the Corton terroirs thanks to her deep understanding of the vineyards.
