  • Grape: Pinot Noir (100%)
  • Color: Red
  • Farming: Sustainable (converting to organic)

Vinification: 30% whole-cluster, indigenous yeast fermentation in open wooden tanks, minimal punch-downs and pump-overs (one each per day in general). Aged for 18 months in barrel (0-50% new).

Tasting notes: From the cru "Les Veroilles" comes this elegant and refined but at the same time, a complex wine. Suave and sensual Chambolle, sweet berry fruit mixed with notes of mocha and a pinch of salt. Well-defined with a crisp, fine-boned chiselled tannic spine. A Veroilles is one of the highest vineyards in the commune producing tense, high-toned wines that retain that Chambolle charm and texture.

91 / 100 Burghound

This too is pleasingly perfumed with its airy aromas of red cherry, currant and discreet spice wisps. There is excellent intensity to the mineral-suffused and delineated medium weight flavors that display fine focus on the linear, youthfully austere and dusty finish. As it often is in its youth, the mouthfeel seems a bit skinny but this wine has a proven track record of fleshing out with time in bottle. Recommended provided it's cellared. Allen Meadows

The 2018 Chambolles-Musigny Les Veroilles comes across a little gawky on the nose, just missing the cohesion of Bruno Clair’s Marsannays. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins, crisp red berry fruit, a touch of white pepper and a slightly short finish at the moment. It just needs to gain more flesh.

Bruno Clair is the son of Bernard Clair (1920-2005) and the grandson of Joseph Clair (1889-1971), originator of the famous Domaine ClairDaü which was founded in Marsannay in 1919.

Following Joseph’s death, family disagreements led to the dismantling of the Domaine Clair-Daü in 1985. In 1986, Bruno was entrusted with the vineyards of his parents, brothers and sisters which included those of Clos de Bèze, Cazetiers, Clos Saint-Jacques, Vosne-Romanée, Clos du Fonteny and Chambolle-Musigny. More vineyards were purchased by Bruno Clair in 1993, including Corton-Charlemagne, Pernand Vergelesses and Aloxe-Corton. In 1996, Gevrey-Chambertin "Petite Chapelle" was added to bring the size of the Domaine to more than 23 hectares.

Bruno is working with his wife Isabelle and his son Edouard joined the Domaine in 2012. Very involved in the vine cultivation, Edouard is progressively converting the Domaine to organic production. In 2018, Bruno & Isabelle's second son Arthur joined the Domaine and he will work on the commercial dimension.
