Domaine GRAND VENEUR Chateauneuf du Pape "Vieilles Vignes" 2014
Wine Region: Rhone Valley - France
Grape: 50% Grenache noir, 30% Mourvèdre, 20% Syrah and other
Tasting notes: It boasts an inky/purple color in addition to a gorgeous perfume of crushed rocks, jammy black fruits, charcoal and graphite. It is easy to appreciate, a sleek and stylish start. The palate holds excellent fruit that runs well and has kick. Its tannins move round freely and a minted finale comes forward. Its dark fruit is tasty, darkens on the finish, where tar and char from its oak enter. It is all very much together, a bundle of harmony, and will gain local attributes as it ages. An outstanding Chateauneuf du Pape which display the best of its terroir.
About the winery:
In the 14th century, during their stay in Avignon, the popes built a papal castle in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Impressed by the area's exceptional “terroir”, they planted vineyards around the castle on terraces covered with smooth rounded pebbles. Established in the northern part of Châteauneuf du Pape, the Jaume family has been dedicated to the art of wine growing since 1826. This venerable profession is their legacy, but above all it is their passion, requiring discipline, perseverance and a respect for nature and the challenges she presents them with. Their aim, as skilled wine growers, is to produce, carefully and lovingly, wines that are intense, rich and complex and that reflect and embody the wonderful terroir of the southern Rhône Valley.
