2017 Domaine Marquis d'Angerville
"2017 was the first harvest in Volnay since 2009 where we saw our vat room almost totally full, with a fruit of very good quality. The wines have evolved remarkably well during the elevage, and have depth and concentration, yet they are airy and exhibit the same attractive early approachability and tenderness as the 2007s, with extra brightness and succulence." Guillaume
The wines of Domaine Marquis d'Angerville are quintessentially great Volnays, elegant, silky and complex. Guillaume d'Angerville, the current owner of Domaine Marquis d'Angerville, has been running the family estate since 2003. The estate has been in his family's hands for over 200 years, but it is Sem d’Angerville, Guillaume's grandfather, who deserves the credit for re-planting the Domaine after phylloxera (in the early 1900s), and for establishing the cornerstone of its reputation. Sem is famous for being one of the first Burgundy producers to practice estatebottling, and he also played a major role in the establishment of the French AOC system in the mid-1930s. Jacques d’Angerville took over from his father in 1950, when he was just 23 years old. He tirelessly pursued his father's quest for "authentic" wines. After 52 vintages, Jacques suddenly passed away in 2003. He left the estate in pristine conditions to his own son, Guillaume, who has continued to respect the same family values and wine-making principles, based on reverence for the prior generations and humility before the terroir and the plant, coupled with a desire to protect nature. Hence, in 2006, the Domaine moved to biodynamic farming and has been fully converted to biodynamics since 2009.
